Founder Jim Sumner brought over 40 years of mechanical experience to the craft. His journey into motocross suspension began in 2000, working on his son’s race bike. What started in the garage quickly evolved into owning and operating a Pro-Action franchise in Colorado from 2001–2009.
After overcoming prostate cancer, Jim launched Airborne MX Suspension to meet growing demand for his work—building a reputation for precision, consistency, and results.
In 2026, Joe Barbier took over Airborne MX Suspension, continuing that legacy with a racer’s perspective. After years of having his own suspension serviced by Jim, Joe trained directly under him, learning the exact methods and standards that built the brand. He further expanded his expertise in Texas, working and riding alongside JM Racing and John Mitchell, gaining hands-on experience both in the shop and on the track.
